It's Time to Upgrade Your Haircare Routine for Fall!

It's Time to Upgrade Your Haircare Routine for Fall!

Have you noticed that your hair changes as the season's change? Along with pumpkin spice lattes, the fall also comes with cooler weather, more wind, and our hair changes along with it. In addition, we typically take hotter showers, use the blow dryer, wear scarves and beanies, all of which may add to the stressors that can lead to more frizz, dryness, and dullness.

To get the most out of your hair, it's important to look at what you have in the shower and see what might be working and what may not. As a general rule, it's best to leave the lighter summer friendly formulas behind and opt for a more moisturizing, nourishing product to sustain you through the colder months. Similarly, adding post shower restorative styling products to protect your hair and scalp is important too. Dry scalp, split ends, frizz, and dullness are just a few of the most common concerns for the season!

Shampoo & Conditioner

Starting with your shampoo and conditioner, opt for something more moisturizing and nourishing. Sulfate- free/ SLS free options are ideal as they don't leave your hair feeling dry or strip your color.

For those with fine hair concerned with the weight from moisturizing products, try using a hydrating shampoo with volumizing conditioner instead! (it's okay to mix). Enjoy and Pureology are some of our favorite brands as all of their formulas are sulfate free!

In addition, while showering use luke warm water. Hot water can exacerbate dryness and leave it even more fragile to brushing and other damage causing factors (chemical treatments, environmental stressors, heat styling, and friction).

Leave- In Conditioner

After each wash, following up with a leave in conditioner is essential to keeping that moisture in your hair throughout the day. And yes, this means in combination with the conditioner you already use in the shower. When hair is exposed to the elements like wind and colder weather, it's no surprise that it can start to look dry and dull over time. A leave in conditioner can help keep that moisture in throughout the day, tame frizz, add shine, and better protect your hair and color. Overall, a leave in conditioner can be one of the most versatile items in our regimen because of all these benefits in just one product. Redken's Multi Benefit Spray is a perfect example of this.

Hair Mask

Every once and awhile, our hair could use a boost to restore it back to where it normally is or even better. A hair mask can deeply condition and treat the hair, boosting its vibrancy, moisture, and help make the hair more manageable when it comes to styling.

If you feel like your hair's texture is "unruly," frizzy, and still dry despite using the other mentioned products, try a mask once a week by leaving it in for at least 3minutes. (pro tip- wrap your hair in a processing cap and add on and off heat with the blow dryer for to make the most of the mask penetrating the hair.)

Pillowcase

A small but important detail, is to use the softest pillow case possible like silk or satin to reduce friction and tangling

silk or satin pillow cases!
