2022 Summer Beauty Must Haves!

2022 Summer Beauty Must Haves!

This summer feels different... The heat is up, humidity is here, and our beauty routines are out of whack. But don't worry because we're here to break down some of our FAVORITE beauty products for this years summer season so you're ready for any situation.

Chip- Free Nail Polish

Starting off summer right includes a getting a fresh manicure with a polish that will actually last while you're on vacation. OPI's new Nature Strong nail lacquer is not only vegan and cruelty free, but also long lasting with a wide array of colors perfect for summer!

Sun Protection

It's no surprise that we're a fan of SPF. It's important to wear on a daily basis but especially during the summer when days are longer and therefore our exposure to the sun's UV rays are typically longer. For the body, one of our favorite sun protectors is Dermalogica's Sport Protection SPF 50. Whether you're exercising outdoors, going to the beach or pool, or just playing with your dog outside, this is a great SPF for the body. Yes, it can be applied to the face as well but we want to tailor it to YOU to fit your skin type.

Oily skin- for oily skin, opt for a lighter SPF like Dermalogica's Invisible Physical Defense SPF 30. It's a weightless broad spectrum physical sunscreen that blends easily into any skin tone. Say goodbye to that thick, white residue that none of us want!

Acne prone- SPF for acne prone skin traditionally can be difficult to wear but with Murad's Oil and Pore Control Mattifier SPF 45, you get all the SPF coverage needed + 10 hours of oil, shine, and pore control to prevent breakouts but still protect your skin from the sun.

Dry or Anti-Aging- For this particular kind of skin, we need more moisture and something like Dermalogica's Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50 does exactly that: it's a medium weight moisturizer + SPF that doesn't leave a white cast and contains peptides, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants to reduce and prevent signs of skin aging.

Normal- For normal skin, Jack Black Double Duty SPF 20 or Dermalogica's Prisma Protect SPF 30 are great lightweight- medium sun protectors to use on a daily basis or when going to the beach.

Don't forget to reapply! Sun damage can really sneak up on us and without the proper protection, our skin can turn undesirably dry, wrinkled, with bad texture, and sun spots. Nobody wants this and it's easily preventable by taking the proper sun protection as seen above!

Purple or Blue Shampoo

With more exposure to the sun in the summer, hair color can change undesirably to warmer tones that we don't want after investing time and money with our hairstylists. For blondes experiencing yellow warm tones, opt for a purple shampoo. If you look on a color chart, purple is the opposite of yellow and therefore neutralizes the unwanted yellow warm tones that are coming to the hair with sun exposure. The opposite of blue is orange and therefore, brunettes who normally see orange tones come in should opt for a blue shampoo instead. Again, this neutralizes the brassiness revealing your true color. Whether it's purple or blue shampoo though, use it up to 3x a week but keep in mind, this does NOT replace your everyday shampoo, it only is an addition to your hair routine. Unite Pureology Olaplex

Olaplex's No. 4P is a wonderful sulfate free, color safe, purple shampoo that's great for blonde, lightened, and gray hair. Just look at the difference above!

Matrix's Brass Off blue shampoo and Redken's Color Extend Brownlights are also great options for brunettes. Biggest difference being that Redken's formula is sulfate free if you're looking for something more gentle.

Self Tanner

If you're going for a safer yet still bronze glowing skin tone, save time and save your skin by using Comodyne's Self Tanning WipesIt's paraben-free with allergen-free fragrance, no added dyes, and 100% natural and biodegradable fibers. Best part, it's clinically, dermatologically and microbiologically tested for all skin types!

Post Sunburn Care

Sunburned? If so, the first thing to do is hydrate and cool off! Drink plenty of fluids, and don't wear anything that is tight or may cause friction. To treat the skin, apply some soothing alow vera gel. Clean + Easy makes one that is great for not only sunburns but also for after waxing since it treats redness, irritation, and soothes the skin.

Clarifying Shampoo

Once you're home from the beach, it's important to deeply clean the hair at least 1x/week. Remove all the salt, chlorine, hair product, and other build up that might be in your hair to give it a clean slate so you're on your way to better manageable hair. Abba's Detox Shampoo deeply cleanses with a soapy lather and is vegan and paraben free with no synthetic color additives.

Deep Conditioner

Finally, the last piece of the summer routine is a good deep conditioner to restore moisture. Not only can the sun change our hair color and make it brassy, but it can make it dry! Combine it with salt/chlorine water and we're headed for a tangled dry mess. Use a deep conditioner like Pureology's Superfood Deep Treatment Mask at least 1x/week to detangle, moisturize, and add shine. It's genuinely a lifesaver when it comes to fixing unruly hair!
